We are pleased to announce that we are leading a consortium of Newham organisations funded by Arts Council England to put culture at the heart of Newham as part of the World On Our Doorstep programme. The programme will empower local people to access, participate and create art in local spaces celebrating the richness of the most culturally diverse borough in the country.
Community Links will be leading the consortium to provide support & opportunities to thousands of people and ensure the to ensure community voice is heard. Other members of the consortium include Caramel Rock , Faithful Friends, National Cricket League and the University of East London.
On securing the latest funding the Director of Community Links Chi Kavindele, said:
“Our new programme will give voice to the community to recognise, value and celebrate cultural richness across the Borough. We want to radically redefine what culture means to local people by bringing the arts to their doorstep: who we are, how we live and what we do.”
This new round of funding means we can increase arts engagement & participation, develop creative engagement activities facilitated by local people and support residents to embrace new forms of arts.
Darren Henley, Chief Executive of Arts Council England, said:
“These projects change villages, towns and cities for the better, helping people to lead happier, healthier lives. Our new investment means more people in more places across England will benefit from that magical spark of possibility, innovation and invention that only happens when culture and creativity becomes part of their daily lives.”
